Our Story

To honor our parents and elders who immigrated to the U.S. seeking a better future, we acknowledge their struggles navigating cultural, language, financial, and work-life challenges. Their perseverance built the foundation for our success. Now, as they age, many feel lonely and isolated. Once the heart of their households, they now grapple with a loss of independence and self-worth.

Inspired by the vision of His Highness The Aga Khan and various global leaders dedicated to uplifting marginalized communities and supporting the elderly, a group of Ismaili Muslims in Atlanta founded the Evergreen Center. This nonprofit helps our elders rediscover joy and thrive.

We named it Evergreen Center because, like the changing seasons, our desire to live, love, and contribute stays evergreen throughout life. At the Evergreen Center, we foster a nurturing space where elders can connect with others, share their wisdom, and restore their sense of purpose.

Our Sources of Inspiration

His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan:

“As we look to the future, we must recognize the growing importance of addressing the needs of our aging populations. Ensuring that our seniors live with dignity and access to quality healthcare is not just a moral imperative but a societal necessity. Longevity should be accompanied by a life of purpose and well-being.” Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on November 12, 2015

Nelson Mandela:

“A society that does not value its older people denies its roots and endangers its future. Let us strive to enhance their lives and make them feel appreciated for all they have done.” Statement to the seniors of South Africa on December 17, 1998

Mother Teresa:

Loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the most terrible poverty.” Time Magazine 29 December 1975
